DURHAM, N.C. - Duke University senior Elisabeth Redmond and freshman Tara Campbell have been honored by TopDrawerSoccer.com as the site released its Team of the Season and All-Rookie teams this week. The Blue Devils are preparing to take on 12th-ranked Rutgers on Friday, Nov. 13 at 4:30 p.m.
Redmond, who is a product of Morristown, N.J., leads the ACC and ranks sixth nationally in assists per game with a 0.63 per game average. She has notched 12 assists in 19 games to go along with three goals and 18 points. Redmond's two game-winning goals also rank tied for first on the Blue Devil squad.
In the ACC stats, Redmond ranks third in shots and fourth in shots per game with 77 and a 4.05 average, respectively, first in assists (12) and first in assists per game (0.63). Over her career, Redmond has accumulated 35 assists, 26 goals and 87 points. She ranks second in assists, seventh in goals and fourth in points on the Duke career charts. Redmond's 14 game-winning goals also ranks third on the Blue Devil list.
Redmond has earned All-ACC, ACC Co-Player of the Week, CollegeSoccer360.com Primetime Performer, Duke/Nike Classic All-Tournament team and was on the preseason watch list for the MAC Hermann Trophy, which is given to the National Player of the Year, so far on the season.
One of only two goalkeepers named to the All-Rookie team, Campbell has stepped in for Duke in her first year and notched six shutouts, a 1.03 goals-against average and 92 saves. She has started 18 of 20 matches in the net. Campbell has held fifth-ranked Florida State and ninth-ranked Wake Forest to zero goals, while also holding sixth-ranked Boston College and 13th-ranked Virginia Tech to only one tally. Campbell is one of four freshmen starting in the back for the Blue Devils in 2009.
A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Campbell currently ranks first in saves (92) and saves per game with a 5.11 average. Her goals against average of 1.03 is currently seventh in the ACC. Her 92 saves on the season ranks third on the Duke single-season record chart and is one away from matching the record of 93 held by Thora Helgadottir and Melissa Carr.
Campbell has received Second Team All-ACC, All-ACC Freshman, Soccer America National Team of the week honors along with being named to the Duke/Nike All-Tournament team.
Duke senior KayAnne Gummersall also received Honorable Mention accolades for the Team of the Season.
The Blue Devils will open the NCAA Tournament on Friday, Nov. 13 against 12th-ranked Rutgers at 4:30 p.m., in Columbia, S.C.
