COLLEGE PARK, Md.?The Duke University women's tennis team did not drop a single set as it captured a 7-0 victory over Maryland this afternoon. The No. 7 Blue Devils just lost 19 games overall in six matches.
Duke improves to 13-3 overall with the win and 3-1 in ACC play.
The Blue Devils started off well, sweeping through doubles action. Duke dropped just four games in the three matches to capture the first point of the match. Sophomores Ellah Nze and Reka Zsilinszka rolled past Michal Amir and Julia Huschke 8-0 for their 14th win. The tandem of Mallory Cecil and Jessi Robinson dropped Eleanor Peters and Jordan Hansbrough 8-3, while 19th-ranked Melissa Mang and Amanda Granson sacrificed just one game in the 8-1 triumph over Maggie MacKeever and Lisa Miller.
Sporting the 1-0 lead after doubles action, Granson made it a 2-0 score with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Miller at No. 4. The victory puts her at 10-5 overall and 3-1 against league foes.
Mang and Zsilinszka clinched the match with their team-best 14 victories of the season. Mang ran past Hansbrough 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5, while No. 31 Zsilinszka breezed through her match against MacKeever 6-1, 6-2.
Nze evened her ACC record to 2-2 with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Amir at No. 2. She is 13-2 on the year overall and tops out all Blue Devils in the rankings at 23rd. Cecil and Robinson completed the Duke sweep at the No. 1 and No. 6 positions, respectively. Cecil garnered her 13th win of the year as she beat Peters in dominating fashion, 6-2, 6-2. Robinson raced to a 6-4, 6-1 win after a tough first set against Oksana Krutiyenko.
Duke returns to action on March 29, at Boston College. The match is slated to begin at 11 a.m.
