SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Duke women's tennis player
Hanna Mar emerged victorious in her second singles match at the San Diego State University Fall Classic to advance to the championship on Sunday.
Mar won her singles semifinal match against San Diego State's Julia Wais by a score of 6-1, 6-1. Mar will play in Sunday's championship match against Juliette Coupez from San Diego.
Monica Gorny also participated in a singles semifinal match on Saturday. The Blue Devil junior faced off against Laura Claus from San Diego and lost by a score of 6-4, 6-4. Gorny will be matched up against Olivia Colman from San Diego State on Sunday.
The Duke pair of Gorny and Mar advanced to the semifinals after winning their opening doubles match to begin the tournament. In the semifinal match on Saturday, Gorny and Mar played against San Diego duo Coupez and Maja Sujica and lost by a score of 8-5. Gorny and Mar will compete for third place in the doubles red bracket on Sunday. The Blue Devil pair will face off against Brooke Doane and Maria Pistalu of Cal State Northridge.
The Duke women will resume play at the SDSU Fall Classic tomorrow with doubles beginning at noon and singles action will immediate follow.
