CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Duke women's tennis team kept up its stellar play on day two of the ITA Carolina Regional, winning five of its singles matches with all three doubles teams reaching the quarterfinals.
Duke's fourth-seeded pair of
Mary Clayton and
Monica Gorny grabbed their sixth consecutive win as doubles partners on Friday at the Carolina Regional. The Blue Devil duo knocked conference rivals Ashley Miller and Christy Spies from NC State out of the Carolina Regional by score of 8-1. Clayton and Gorny are slated to play Blue Devil teammates
Hanna Mar and
Reka Zsilinszka in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
The Blue Devils fifth-seeded doubles tandem of Mar and Zsilinszka won their second doubles match of the regional by a score of 8-1, over Miki Bunea and Diana Mortlock from College of Charleston.
The Duke senior duo of
Nadine Fahoum and
Ellah Nze defeated bitter rivals Haley Hemm and Gina Suarez-Malaguti from North Carolina in their round of 16 match-up by a score of 8-3. Fahoum and Nze advanced with the win to the quarterfinals to square off against Ryann Cutillo and Kayla Duncan from Wake Forest on Saturday.

Duke's Clayton won her first round singles match over Clemson's Caroline Magnusson. Clayton lost the opening set and mounted a stellar comeback win. Clayton only gave up three games in the final two sets to win by a score of 4-6, 6-1, 6-2. Clayton will face off with Tara Illova from NC State in her second round match.
Nze, the second-seed overall, took down Emma Hayman from College of Charleston 6-1, 5-7, 6-1. Nze will square off with bitter rival Lauren McHale from UNC in the second round on Saturday.
