CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Duke women's tennis team kept on rolling at the ITA Carolina Regional on Saturday. The Blue Devils sent two singles players into the quarterfinals and two doubles teams into the semifinals.
The Blue Devil duo of Hanna Mar and Reka Zsilinszka advanced the semifinals at the Carolina Regional by picking up their third straight doubles win. The Duke pair defeated teammates Mary Clayton and Monica Gorny by a score of 8-3, and will play their first semifinal match as partners against the top-seeded doubles pair Josipa Bek and Keri Wong from Clemson on Sunday.
The second-seeded Duke tandem of Nadine Fahoum and Ellah Nze took down Ryann Cutillo and Kayla Duncan from Wake Forest in their quarterfinal match. Fahoum and Nze won 8-4 and advanced to the doubles semifinal on Sunday to square off against Lauren McHale and Shinann Featherston from North Carolina.
In singles action, fifth-seeded Fahoum grabbed the straight-set win in the second round over Yasmine Alkema from Winthrop, 6-4, 6-2, and advanced to face off against conference rival and ninth-seeded Jelena Durisic from UNC in the third round. Fahoum picked up the win to advance to the singles quarterfinals by a score of 1-6, 6-4, 7-6. Fahoum is slated to play Sanna Bhambri from NC State on Sunday.
Second-seeded Nze grabbed a second round straight-set win over Emma Hayman from College of Charleston 6-1, 6-3. Nze advanced to the third round and picked up the win to advance to the quarterfinals by a score of 6-2, 6-3 over Masha Belaya from Clemson. Nze will square off with Shinann Featherston from UNC on Sunday.
Mar opened second round singles action on Saturday with a win over conference foe Laurianne Henry from Clemson in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. In the third round Mar squared off with Sanna Bhambri from NC State and was knocked out of the singles competition by a score of 7-5, 6-3. Mar will continue the Carolina Regional with doubles on Sunday.
Duke's Clayton grabbed a second round straight set win over Tana Illova from NC State 6-2, 6-2. Clayton lost her third round match to Zoe Debruckyer from UNC 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (3).
Blue Devil senior Elizabeth Plotkin was knocked out of the regional on Saturday after falling in her second round match to conference rival Klara Vsykocialova from Clemson. Vsykocialova won the match in straight sets 6-0, 7-5.
