Duke Completes ITA Carolina Regional

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Duke women's tennis team closed out the ITA Carolina Regional with seniors Ellah Nze and Nadine Fahoum reaching the singles semifinals, while two doubles teams also reached the semifinals.
The Blue Devil tandem of Hanna Mar and Reka Zsilinszka fell in the Carolina Regional doubles semifinal on Sunday to the fifth-ranked duo of Josipa Bek and Keri Wong from Clemson. Mar and Zsilinszka lost the match by a score of 8-2.
The doubles pair of Fahoum and Nze were knocked out of the regional double semifinal by conference rivals Shinann Featherston and Lauren McHale from North Carolina. The Blue Devil pair fought hard throughout the match and came up just short of advancing to the finals, losing by a score of 8-6.
In singles action, second-seeded Nze faced off against Shinann Featherston for the second time on the day in the quarterfinals. Nze won her quarterfinal match by a score of 6-3, 6-3 and advanced to the semifinals to square off with Zoe DeBruycker from UNC. Duke's Nze fell in her semifinal match by a score of 7-5, 6-0. On the weekend Nze was 4-1 in singles action and 3-1 in doubles with Fahoum.
Duke's fifth-seeded Fahoum opened her singles action on Sunday with a quarterfinal match-up between Sanna Bhambri from N.C. State. Fahoum defeated Bhambri in three sets, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4, and advanced to the semifinals to face off against Josipa Bek from Clemson. Fahoum lost to the top-seeded Bek in her semifinal match by a score of 6-2, 6-2.
On the weekend, the Blue Devils were 13-6 in singles play and 8-3 in doubles.
Blue Devil senior Reka Zsilinszka earned a spot in the ITA National Indoor Championships when she reached the quarterfinals of the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships. Zsilinszka will compete in the National Indoor Championships in Flushing, N.Y., Nov. 4-7.
The Duke women will next compete in the Tar Heel Invitational Nov. 5-7 in Chapel Hill, N.C. to close out the fall tennis season.
