DURHAM, N.C. - In the first week of nominations, Duke's freshman swimmer Christine Wixted earned ACC Co-Performer of the Week honors on Monday along with Virginia's Lauren Perdue. Wixted is only the second Blue Devil freshman to win this ACC honor, behind diver Nick McCrory who earned the accolade twice last season.
The freshman swimmer swept the board this week, also picking up the Ronald McDonald House Charities Student-Athlete of the Week.
Wixted has set the bar high for the Blue Devils. In only her first two weeks of collegiate competition, she broke two pools records at the University of North Carolina Wilmington and then set another in the Blue Devils' home opener against conference rival, Maryland.
A native of Greenwood Village, Colo., Wixted remains unbeaten in the six events she has competed in. During Saturday's meet against the Terrapins, Wixted set an NCAA provisional qualifying time in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke. Wixted posted a time of 1:02.39 in the 100 breast, cutting the previous record holders time by an astounding 1.11 seconds. She also posted a new time of 2:16.09 in the women's 200 breast.
Wixted and the Duke swimming and diving team will next compete on Friday, Oct. 29, when it hosts N.C. State and the women of Campbell University at 5:00 p.m.
