PACIFIC PALISADES, Cali. - Nadine Fahoum and Reka Zsilinszka played in the qualifying singles and doubles tournaments on Tuesday, Oct. 5, at the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships. Fahoum and Ellah Nze won their opening doubles match, and Fahoum and Zsilinszka won their opening singles matches.
Duke's Nadine Fahoum, the number one overall seed in singles, opened the qualifying singles tournament winning in straight sets over Tennessee's Brynn Boren, 6-3, 6-0. In her quarterfinal match, Fahoum lost to Noemie Scharle from Florida State, 6-3, 6-4.
Blue Devil senior, and fifth overall seed in singles, Reka Zsilinszka also grabbed a win in her opening singles match. Zsilinszka picked up the straight set win, 6-3, 6-1, over Valiera Pulido from Southern California. With the win, Zsilinszka moves on to the quarterfinals of the qualifying bracket. Zsilinszka began her quarterfinal match against Joanna Mather from Florida was ahead 3-2 before play was suspended due to rain. The quarterfinal matches are scheduled to resume, Wednesday, Oct. 6, at 1:45 p.m. (EST).
In doubles action, the top seeded Duke pair of Fahoum and Nze picked up their first win by a score of 8-4 over Gabriela Mejia and Kayla Rizzola from the University of Miami. Fahoum and Nze face off next against Kaitlyn Christian and Maria Sanchez from USC on Wednesday, Oct. 6.
Duke's Mary Clayton and Nze will compete in the main draw of the Riviera beginning on Thursday, Oct. 7.
