DURHAM, N.C. – In a week where she made her first three career starts, Duke freshman
Chelsea Gray has been named ACC Rookie of the Week on Monday by a vote of the Blue Ribbon Panel, which consists of national and local media members, as well as school representatives.
Gray, who is a native of Stockton, Calif., made her first career start against seventh-ranked Texas A&M on Monday and totaled 11 points, six rebounds, two assists, two blocks and one steal in 24 minutes as fifth-ranked Duke downed the Aggies, 61-58.
The 5-11 point guard came back to match a career high of 15 points against Albany on Thursday along with three rebounds, three assists and a career-high five steals. Gray closed the week with 10 points, a career-high eight rebounds and a career-high seven assists at previously unbeaten Oklahoma State on Sunday.
Duke improved to 11-0 on the year, while Gray averaged 12.0 points, 5.7 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.3 steals. Gray is currently one of only two ACC freshmen ranked among the league's top free throw and three-point shooters as the rookie averages a 77.1 free throw percentage (13th) and a 52.2 three-point percentage (2nd) over 11 games played.
Gray has notched double-figure scoring in five straight contests. Earning ACC Player of the Week for the ACC was Miami's Riquna Williams.
The Blue Devils will next host fourth-ranked Xavier on Tuesday, Dec. 21 at 7:00 p.m.
