West Lafayette, Ind. – On the second day of the 2010 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships,
Abby Johnston again took to the boards, this time for the three-meter competition.
After taking fourth place on the one-meter board and earning All-American honors the day before, Johnston was primed for success on the three-meter board. The true strength of competition was on display as the previous pool record was shattered by Houston's Anastasia Pozdniakova in prelims and again in finals by Minnesota's Kelci Bryant. Johnston posted a score of 313.60 points to finish the preliminary round in 15th place, securing a spot in the consolation finals.
In finals, the Duke sophomore kept pace with the other divers and ultimately finished in 14th place with a score of 307.60. Johnston earned three points toward the team score, bringing Duke's total to 18 points. Heading into the final day of competition, the Duke women are 23rd in the nation.
The 2010 championships will conclude on Saturday with
Ashley Twichell competing in the 1650 freestyle in which she is seeded sixth and Johnston competing on the platform.
