CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - The Duke swimming and diving teams picked up a pair of losses (Women: 132-156, and Men: 132-155) Sunday, to Virginia in a close match-up.
The Devils started out slow, falling to the Cavaliers in both the men's and women's 200 medley relays, but managed to pick up a win in the very next event of the 1650 free by senior Ashley Twichell.
Twichell grabbed second in the 500 free, falling to Virginia's All-America swimmer, Lauren Perdue. She posted her best season time, 4:50.64, in the event, posting an NCAA B cut. Sophomore Emily Barber once again dominated the breast events, grabbing first in the 100 and 200.
Freshman Hunter Knight had an impressive day for the Devils, notching second in the 200 breast, as well as a first place finish in the 200 IM.
The Duke divers held off the Cavaliers, gabbing both first and second spots on both sides. Junior Cody Kolodziejzyk placed first on both boards. In her second season appearance after shoulder surgery kept her out of fall competition, red shirt sophomore Jessica Lyden grabbed a second place finish on the one-meter with a score of 275.85.
The Blue Devils return to Taishoff Aquatics Pavilion to host senior night against the Clemson Tigers on Saturday, Jan. 29, in an 11:00 a.m. meet.
