The Blue team came out on top in Saturday's meet, which included two relay events as well as a diving competition. Freshman Ali Horn was impressive in her debut as a Blue Devil, winning the women's 200 IM, 200 fly and 200 breast events, while senior Rose O'Connor took first in both the 500 free and the 1,000 free.. On the men's side, top performances included junior Ben Hwang's wins in the 50 free and the 100 free, as well as junior Matt Carder's victories in the 200 and 500 free.
Duke is coming off of a season in which both the men's and women's teams posted top-20 finishes at the NCAA Championships and broke a combined 28 school records. At the 2011 ACC Championships, the men's 200 free relay of Hwang, Spencer Booth, Ben Tuben and Nick Garvy won the program's first conference title in a relay event. In addition, divers Nick McCrory and Abby Johnston ended the season with outstanding performances at the NCAA Championships. McCrory earned his second consecutive national championship on the platform, while Johnston collected the first diving national title for the women's program with her first-place finish on the three-meter board.
The Blue Devils officially kick off the 2011-12 season at Maryland on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 1 p.m.
