Sophomore Christine Wixted was named the ACC Women's Swimming & Diving Performer of the Week Tuesday after sharing the honors with North Carolina's Stephanie Peacock last week. The Greenwood Village, Colo., native was a key contributor in the Duke women's meet at Virginia Tech on Saturday, as the Blue Devils picked up their first win of the season over UNC Wilmington and lost to Florida State and the Hokies.
Wixted won both the 100 breast and 200 breast for the second-straight meet, posting a time of 1:02.05 in the 100 breast to cut .21 seconds off of her performance in the event last week. That mark currently ranks seventh in the nation. Wixted also bested a field of 14 to win the 200 breast at 2:15.95. Her marks in both events once again were good for NCAA 'B' qualifying standards. In addition, Wixted also took first in the 200 IM, touching in 2:05.47 to beat a field of 16.
In the meet at Virginia Tech, Wixted also swam the second leg of the Blue Devils' 200 medley relay which recorded a time of 1:44.01 to finish second.
Junior Ben Hwang earned ACC Men's Swimming & Diving Performer of the Week honors for the second consecutive week as well following Duke's win over UNC Wilmington and losses to Florida State and Virginia Tech on Saturday.
Hwang maintained his status as one of the conference's top freestylers, winning the 50 and 100 free for the second time in as many meets. The Cerritos, Calif., native clocked 20.21 in the 50 free for an NCAA 'B' cut time. He also bested a field of 16 to win the 100 free, touching in 45.51. Hwang also powered the Blue Devils' 400 free relay to a third-place finish, swimming the anchor leg.
In addition, Hwang still owns the nation's top time in the 50 free - 19.84 - which he posted during Duke's win over Maryland on Oct. 22.
The Blue Devils travel to Raleigh, N.C. on Saturday, Nov. 5 to take on ACC opponent NC State and the Savannah College of Art and Design.
