Gambucci Collects RMHC Athlete of the Week

DURHAM, N.C.-Duke University redshirt freshman Brandon Gambucci was named the Ronald McDonald House Charities Duke Student-Athlete of the Week after his runner-up performance at the Hokie Open. Gambucci went 3-1 in his first tournament wrestling for Duke.

Competing at 133 pounds for Duke, Gambucci led all Blue Devils at the Hokie Open. He opened the day with a 5-2 decision over No. 2 seed Matt Oliver of Newberry College. Gambucci's cruised past North Carolina's Pat Owens, 4-0, to earn a spot in the championship semifinals.

Going up against Chris Johnson of Appalachian State in the semifinal bout, the native of Mansfield, Ohio dominated Johnson to earn a 13-3 major decision and the right to take on sixth-ranked Devin Carter of Virginia Tech in the final bout. Gambucci fought hard in the title match, but Carter proved to be too much.

Duke continues its tournament schedule November 13 at the Wolfpack Open.
