Lyden Advances to Quarterfinals at Winter Nationals

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Senior Jessica Lyden qualified for the quarterfinals of the 2012 USA Diving Winter National Championships with a 10th-place showing Friday in the women's 1-meter springboard event.
Lyden scored 234.95 points in the final round of Friday's preliminaries to become one of 19 women to advance out of the preliminary round. She will also compete in the quarterfinals of the women's 3-meter event after recording a sixth-place finish Thursday on the first day of action in Knoxville.
Redshirt junior Shawn Hoffman also took to the boards Friday, finishing 39th on the 3-meter board with a finals score of 273.35.
The quarterfinals of the USA Diving Winter National begin Saturday, Dec. 17 at 10 a.m. at the University of Tennessee's Allan Jones Aquatic Complex.
Abby Johnston has already prequalified for the quarterfinals of the women's 3-meter and synchronized 3-meter events, while Nick McCrory also prequalified on the platform, as well as in the men's synchronized 3-meter and synchronized platform events.
The field of 125 divers will be competing for 10 national titles during the seven-day competition, as well as the chance to represent the U.S. at the 2012 FINA World Cup and the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials.
