Johnston Places Ninth in the Nation on 3-meter Board

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Abby Johnston collected a total score of 898.50 to finish ninth in the finals of the women's 3-meter springboard competition Wednesday at the 2012 USA Diving Winter Nationals.
Johnston, the 2011 NCAA champion on the 3-meter board, advanced to Wednesday's final after taking fifth with a score of 630.30 in the semifinal round earlier in the day. She also posted a score of 300.10 in Tuesday's quarterfinals to remain in contention for the national title.
A native of Upper Arlington, Ohio, Johnston is a three-time All-American and has swept the women's low board events at each of the past two ACC Championship meets.
Johnston is slated to return to action on the final day of the 2012 USA Diving Winter Nationals Thursday at the University of Tennessee's Allan Jones Aquatic Complex. She will compete in the preliminaries of the women's synchronized 3-meter event beginning at 12:15 p.m.
