ATHENS, GA. - The Duke divers closed out competition at the 2011 Zones by clinching top finishes in the men's and women's platform events.
After losing platform competitor Julie Brummond last year, the Duke divers picked up freshman Haley Ishimatsu to fill the void for the event. Ishimatsu, a 2008 Olympian, delivered. After preliming fourth in the event, Ishimatsu picked up an impressive 321 points to grab third overall with a final score of 623.75, a top finish in this event for the Duke program.
Duke sophomore, and defending National Champion, Nick McCrory was unmatched on the platform. Asserting himself from the start, McCrory never looked back as he dominated the boards. Finishing with an overpowering 976.40, his second place competitor finished a staggering 113 points behind him.
The women open the 2011 NCAA Swimming and Diving Competition on Thursday, March 17 in Austin, Texas, while the men will head to Minneapolis, Minn., Thursday, March 24.
