DURHAM, N.C. – The fourth-ranked Duke women's tennis team downed No. 12 Georgia Tech 5-2, on Sunday afternoon at Ambler Tennis Stadium.
Duke (20-2, 9-0 ACC) started the match strong winning two out three doubles matches to claim the doubles point for the 11th time in its last 12 matches.
Georgia Tech won the first of three doubles matches on court one as Jillian O'Neill and Caroline Lilley earned an 8-4 win over Rachel Kahan and Ellah Nze.
The Blue Devils won two hard fought matches on courts two and three after being down to start the match on both courts. Monica Gorny and Mary Clayton picked up their 20th win this season with an 8-6 decision over Viet Ha Ngo and Sasha Krupina.
Nadine Fahoum and Hanna Mar clinched the doubles point for Duke on court two in stellar fashion. Fahoum and Mar battled back from being down throughout the match to claim the 9-7 win to give the Blue Devils a 1-0 lead.
Duke started singles by winning the first set in all six matches and earned four straight set wins on the day. Clayton was once again the first off the courts for Duke with a straight set win over Elizabeth Kilborn 6-4, 6-2, while Kahan earned her 20th dual match singles win this season to remain undefeated. Kahan won the match in straight sets over Krupina by a score of 6-4, 6-3, that extended her win streak to 22 in a row.
Fahoum clinched the match for Duke for the second day in a row on court one as she took down O'Neill with a straight set win 7-6 (7-5), 6-1. With three matches remaining on courts two, three and four, Georgia Tech went on to win two out of three.
Reka Zsilinszka won her match in straight sets over Viet Ha Ngo 6-1, 7-6 (7-4), while Elizabeth Plotkin had her 14 match win streak snapped by Lynn Blau and Nze fell to Caroline Lilley.
