Wrestling Earns Team Academic Honor from NWCA

DURHAM, N.C.-For the sixth straight year the Duke University wrestling team ranks among the top 30 academically among Division I programs. The Blue Devils come in at No. 20 overall on the list with a team grade point average of 3.01.

Duke is one of only 22 programs to achieve at least a 3.0 team GPA and is second in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Harvard tops the list overall and Virginia is the top ACC school represented in the No. 15 slot.

The Blue Devils finished the year with a 2-6-1 overall record. Redshirt sophomore Diego Bencomo became the second Duke wrestler to advance to the NCAA Championships quarterfinal round and was just one win away from earning All-America recognition. The wrestling squad most recently was recognized by the NCAA in the Academic Progress Rate (APR) report that provides a measure of each team's academic performance for a particular academic year.
