Bencomo, Klopp Earn Preseason Rankings

DURHAM, N.C.-Duke University wrestlers Diego Bencomo and Bret Klopp have been ranked in their respective weight classes in the preseason WrestlingReport.com national poll. Bencomo became the 32nd Blue Devil to qualify for the NCAA Championships last year, qualifying at 184 pounds.

Bencomo, a redshirt junior, came in at No. 22 in the 184-pound division. The Phoenix native posted a 27-16 overall record in 2010-11, earning All-ACC recognition as the runner up at the ACC Championships. He is the highest rated wrestler in the ACC at 184 pounds, edging Virginia's Jon Fausey. For his career, Bencomo is 48-27.

A redshirt sophomore, Klopp is ranked 31st of 33 at 174 pounds. He led the Blue Devils in falls in 2010-11, pinning 18 opponents, including nine in the first period. Klopp finished the season with a 27-12 overall record and went 22-8 in tournament action.

The Blue Devils open the 2011-12 season on Nov. 6 at the Citadel Open and Hokie Open.
