After placing 18th in the 400-meter freestyle preliminaries earlier in the week, 2011 graduate and former All-American Ashley Twichell turned in another impressive performance Saturday in the 800 freestyle. Competing in the event's fastest-seeded heat, Twichell recorded a time of 8:37.34 to finish 10th in a field of 65 swimmers and improve upon her seeding by five spots.
Two current Blue Devils also took to the water for Saturday morning's preliminaries. Rising senior Ben Hwang tied for 60th in the 50 freestyle at 23.24, while fellow rising senior Cara Vogel touched at 2:19.48 in the 200 backstroke to finish 127th.
Rising junior Lauren Weaver was in action Sunday morning, clocking 26.38 in the 50 freestyle to place 79th overall.
In total, nine current and former Blue Devil swimmers competed at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials, the highest number of participants in program history.
