The Duke women's soccer team (8-8-1, 4-4-1 ACC) will travel to Tallahassee, Fla., for its regular season finale at second-ranked Florida State (15-1-1, 8-0-1 ACC) Friday, Oct. 31 at the Seminole Soccer Complex at 7:00 p.m. The game will be aired live on ESPN3.
In the Rankings... Florida State is ranked No. 2 in both the NSCAA and Soccer America ledgers.
A Look at Florida State... The Seminoles enter Friday's match with a 15-1-1 overall and 8-0-1 ACC mark. Florida State is tied for first overall in the ACC along with North Carolina. Dagny Brynjarsdottir leads the Seminoles with 12 goals on the year, while Cassie Miller owns 11 shutouts and has allowed only eight goals all season.
The Series with Florida State... Duke and Florida State will meet for the 23rd time in school history with Florida State leading 10-8-4. In matches played in Tallahassee, Fla., the Blue Devils own a 3-7 mark. Florida State has won seven straight matches played at Florida State.
Playing on Halloween... Duke will play on Halloween for the fourth time in school history -- Maryland (2003), N.C. State (1992), North Carolina (2013). The Blue Devils defeated the Terrapins (1-0) and knocked off the Wolfpack (2-0). Both matches were played in Durham. Last season, Duke dropped a 3-0 decision to the Tar Heels.
Church Nets Milestone.. With the victory Sunday versus Boston College, Duke head coach
Robbie Church posted his 350th overall win during his 29 years as a men's and women's head coach. His record currently stands 350-218-51, including a 167-104-37 mark with the Blue Devils.
On the Road... After playing the last four matches at home, Duke will hit the road for FSU Friday. So far this season, the Blue Devils are 3-2 on the road with a win at 13th-ranked West Virginia coming away from Durham.
Scoring Woes.. The Blue Devils have scored only 22 goals this season through 17 matches. The last time Duke didn't score 30 or more goals was in 2001 (26). The fewest goals scored in a season was 22 in 1998.
Key Stretch for Duke.. Duke needed to finish strong in 2013 to make a run in the NCAA Tournament and the Blue Devils will need to do so again in 2014 with an 8-8-1 overall mark. Duke has one match remaining at Florida State and needs to have a .500 record or above to have a chance to make the NCAA Tournament. The Blue Devils have advanced to 11 straight NCAA Tournaments.
Payne is Golden... With her goal a minute and 21 seconds into overtime against Boston College,
Toni Payne lifted Duke to a 2-1 win over the Eagles on senior day.
It marked her second game-winning goal of the year. Freshman
Ashton Miller netted her second assist of the match as she sent a corner kick to the feet of the sophomore.
Cobb Scores on Senior Day... Duke senior
Kelly Cobb snapped an 11-game scoreless streak against Boston College as she netted a second half goal. She owns 25 career goals and needs one more to move into a tie for 10th on Duke's all-time charts.
Cobb has 219 career shots to rank sixth on the Duke career record book and needs one to move into a tie for fifth with Andi Melde (220).
In the ACC Stats... Toni Payne currently ranks eighth in the ACC with 52 shots, while also ranking 10th with a 3.06 shots per game average. She is tied 10th with 19 points.
Ali Kershner is tied eighth with four shutouts.
