DURHAM, N.C. -- The ACC released the 2014 All-ACC women's soccer teams Thursday with four Blue Devils named to the squad. The All-ACC honorees were determined by a vote of the 14 league head coaches.
Sophomore
Christina Gibbons and sophomore
Toni Payne were each named second team All-ACC, while freshmen
Ashton Miller and
Imani Dorsey earned All-ACC Freshman team accolades.
Coming off being named to the All-ACC Freshman team a year ago, Gibbons earned second team All-ACC honors in her second year at Duke. The 5-6 defender started 15-of-16 matches and saw action in both the midfield and defense slots. Gibbons, who is a native of Raleigh, N.C., scored three goals, added three assists and had a total of nine points on the season. She netted the game-winning goal at Pittsburgh in a 3-0 victory.
Leading the Blue Devils in scoring with seven goals and five assists for 19 points, Payne was named Second Team All-ACC. A product of Birmingham, Ala., Payne collected game-winning goals against UAB and a golden-goal against Boston College for a 2-1 victory. She led Duke with 52 shots on the season and her 1,437 minutes was the third-most on the team. Payne was also a 2013 All-ACC Freshman team selection.
Starting 16-of-18 matches on the season, Dorsey was a key part of the Blue Devil offense as a rookie. She scored three goals and added two assists for eight points on the season. Her 46 shots ranked as the second-most on the Duke team. Dorsey, who hails from Elkridge, Md., tallied the game-winning goal at 13th-ranked West Virginia, which was one of the biggest wins for the Blue Devils on the season.
Miller, who is from Okemos, Mich., was a key member of the Duke midfield this year starting 16-of-18 matches. She tallied the game-winning goal in a 2-1 victory over Wake Forest, while adding two assists against Boston College. Miller collected 18 shots and led the Blue Devils with 46 corner kicks taken.
As a team, Duke finished the season with an 8-9-1 overall and 4-5-1 league mark under the direction of head coach
Robbie Church.
