DURHAM, N.C. - Former Duke standout and current New York Red Bulls forward Mike Grella scored the fastest goal in Major League Soccer (MLS) history Sunday during a 4-1 win against the Philadelphia Union as the Red Bulls earned the top seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs.
After being selected by Toronto FC in the third round of the 2009 MLS SuperDraft, Grella chose to play in Europe for Leeds United. Following Grella's successful European trek, he joined the Carolina Railhawks of the North American Soccer League before landing a spot with the Red Bulls. Grella has made a major contribution this season, starting 29 games with nine goals and seven assists. The Red Bulls will hit the road to face the Chicago Fire on Sunday, October 25 at 5 p.m. eastern time.
