FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – A pair of Blue Devils reached the finals of the women's 100-meter butterfly to highlight the second day of competition at the 2015 AT&T Winter National Championships, held at the Weyhauser King County Aquatic Center.
Sophomores Isabella Paez and Leah Goldman were 17th and 24th, respectively, in the event preliminaries Friday morning, qualifying them to the C final. Both NCAA qualifiers as freshmen in 2015, Paez and Goldman each dropped time in the evening session. Paez was second in the heat at 59.99, a mark that broke the previous school record, while Goldman touched third in a personal-best 1:00.33.
Goldman also competed in the 100-meter breaststroke preliminaries, turning in a time of 1:13.91.
A day after punching his ticket to the 2016 British Olympic Trials, freshman Yusuke Legard took to the water in a 200-meter freestyle time trial. The Weybridge, Surrey, United Kingdom native raced to the wall in 1:54.94.
The AT&T Winter Nationals reach their conclusion Saturday, with Goldman, Legard and junior James Peek slated to race in the 100-meter freestyle. Paez will also compete in the 200-meter butterfly.
