GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Three members of the Duke women's tennis team, senior Ester Goldfeld, junior Beatrice Capra and freshman Samantha Harris, were named to the 2015 All-ACC Academic Team, as announced by the conference office Wednesday. Duke's three honorees tied with Florida State and Georgia Tech for the second-highest number of representatives on the list, while Clemson and Miami paced the schools on the all-academic team, with four each.
A student-athlete must have earned a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester, as well as maintain a 3.0 cumulative average during an individual's academic career.
Goldfeld, who is working toward a degree in evolutionary anthropology, became the 24th player in Duke history to earn 100 singles wins for her career. Concluding her college campaign as the 43rd-ranked singles player by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), Goldfeld amassed an overall record of 25-15 in her final season at Duke. The Brooklyn, N.Y., native garnered All-ACC honors for the fourth straight season and appeared in the NCAA Singles Tournament for the second consecutive year.
Capra, a cultural anthropology major, earned first team All-ACC honors for the third time in her career earlier this season and played as Duke's primary singles player at the No. 1 position. The Ellicott City, Md., native registered three wins against nationally ranked opponents, and remained nationally ranked herself at the conclusion of the season, coming in at No. 96 on the ITA singles list. In doubles, Capra teamed with Harris to rank 44th overall, posting a perfect 4-0 record in conference matches in the process. The tandem remained unbeaten at the No. 2 position, winning all five of its matches on the second court.
Harris, who has not yet declared a major, saw a spectacular freshman campaign in Durham, garnering ITA Carolina Region Rookie of the Year honors. The Melbourne, Australia, native posted an overall singles record of 24-8 during the 2014-15 season, while also becoming the sixth freshman in Duke history to earn 10 singles wins in ACC play. Harris' 10-4 ACC ledger paced the Blue Devils, who went 11-3 against conference foes, marking the second time in program history a Duke team posted back-to-back double-digit ACC wins.
