DURHAM, N.C. -- The Duke women's tennis team followed a strong 2013-14 season by once again qualifying for the NCAA Team Championships, advancing to the second round of the tournament. In addition to the team's success, numerous Blue Devils achieved individual accomplishments throughout the year.
Harris Named ITA Carolina Region Rookie of the Year
Samantha Harris capped an impressive freshman season in Durham by garnering Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Carolina Region Rookie of the Year honors. The Melbourne, Australia, native became the sixth Blue Devil in Duke history to reach double-digit conference wins, posting an ACC mark of 10-4. Harris also surpassed the 20-win plateau in singles action, earning 24 wins, the second-most among her teammates. A third-team All-ACC honoree, Harris reached as high as 51st in the ITA's national singles polls.
In doubles, Harris paired with both Beatrice Capra and Annie Mulholland throughout the year to rank 36th and 55th, respectively, on the ITA charts. Harris and Capra posted a perfect 4-0 record in conference matches and a 9-5 overall ledger. Harris and Mulholland garnered a team-best 14 wins, including six against conference foes.
Goldfeld Reaches 100-Win Mark
Ester Goldfeld became the 24th singles player in Duke history to reach 100 career wins after defeating Virginia's 33rd-ranked Danielle Collins, 7-5, 6-4, March 22. Goldfeld concluded her career as a Blue Devil with an overall singles record of 104-42. A four-time All-ACC honoree, Goldfeld recorded a team-best 25 singles wins during the 2014-15 season, with four victories coming against nationally ranked opposition. The Brooklyn, N.Y., native earned a berth in the NCAA Singles Tournament for the second straight year, where she faced Erin Routliffe of Alabama in the opening round.
Capra Receives Inaugural Charles Hamilton Hargrave Award
Beatrice Capra earned the Charles Hamilton Hargrave Award, presented to the team's most valuable player, for the 2015 season. Capra bounced back from a surgery that required her to miss a majority of the fall season, recording 12 singles victories and 18 doubles wins. Capra, Duke's primary player at the No. 1 position, registered three wins against nationally ranked foes and concluded the year on a four-match win streak. Capra remained in the top 100 of the ITA's singles list to close out the season, appearing at No. 96 overall.
Impressive Incoming Class
Duke is set to welcome the second-ranked recruiting class to Durham for the 2015-16 season, according to TennisRecruiting.net. Ellyse Hamlin, Jessica Ho and Kaitlyn McCarthy comprise the trio of incoming student-athletes, with all three ranking among the top-10 in the country. Duke paced three other ACC teams that also appear among the top 10 on the recruiting class list, including No. 5 North Carolina, No. 7 Wake Forest and No. 9 NC State.
Final Team Rankings
The Blue Devils remained a fixture in the ITA top 25 in 2015. Duke never fell out of the top 25, ranking as high as two to begin the season and moving up four positions over the final month of the season.
Individual Rankings

In singles, Ester Goldfeld led the way for the Blue Devils, appearing at No. 43 on the list, while No. 94 Samantha Harris and No. 96 Beatrice Capra joined Goldfeld in the top 100. Goldfeld remained among the top 100 singles players throughout the year, while a 6-2, 6-1 win over 25th-ranked Stephanie Nauta of Virginia allowed Harris to break into and remain in the top 100.
In doubles, Capra and Harris finished the season ranked 44th in the nation, while Annie Mulholland and Harris garnered the No. 56 ranking.
