Duke wrestling head coach Glen Lanham welcomes seven newcomers to the program for the 2016-17 season. Take a few minutes to learn more about each of our newest wrestlers. Roman Romero wrestled at 182 pounds in California and brings with him to placements at the state tournament.
Before Duke: A four-year letterwinner at McNair High School … Took third at 182 pounds at the California Interscholastic Federation State Tournament as a senior … Finished eighth in the event his junior campaign … Was a Sac-Joaquin Masters champion his junior and senior years and finished runner-up as a sophomore … Captured the division title at 182 as a sophomore and senior … Helped lead McNair to the league title in 2015 and 2016 … Was the runner-up in the 182 division at the Doc Buchanan Tournament in 2016 and seventh in 2015 … Advanced to the semifinals of the Sierra Nevada Classic his senior year … Competed for Team California at the USAW Jr. Nationals … Won the 2014 USA Wrestling Greco-Roman state title in 2014 … Selected the Most Outstanding Wrestler at the Rosriguez Tournament.
