Bass Named RMHC Student-Athlete of the Week

DURHAM, N.C. — Duke senior wrestler Connor Bass was selected the Ronald McDonald House Charities Duke Student-Athlete of the Week, after capturing his second consecutive Southeast Open title to kick off the 2016-17 season. This is his first honor as a Blue Devil.

Bumping up two weight classes from 157 to 174, Bass didn't skip a beat in cruising to the semifinal of the Southeast Open with a major decision and two second-period falls.

In the semifinal bout he edged Penn's Dan McDevitt in the semifinal and scored an overtime decision in the title match against No. 13 Jon Schleifer of Princeton. Bass went a perfect 5-0 over the weekend to push his career wins total to 40.

Bass and Duke open the dual schedule Saturday at the Mountaineer Duals. The Blue Devils will wrestle No. 15 Oregon State and Belmont Abbey.
