DURHAM, N.C. – Redshirt junior Rebecca Greenwell led the Blue Devils' offense with 27 points while senior Oderah Chidom totaled 18 in a 129-46 exhibition victory over the University of Charleston (W. Va.) Sunday evening. Duke outscored the Golden Eagles 80-10 in the paint and dominated the boards with a 50-22 rebounding margin in the win.
Greenwell went 10-of-18 from the field and 5-of-11 from behind the arc and added two rebounds, seven assists and four steals to the overall effort. Chidom went 9-of-13 from the field and totaled seven rebounds.
Freshman Leaonna Odom started her first collegiate game strong with 16 points, seven rebounds and two assists.
The Blue Devils opened up a 29-18 lead at the end of the first quarter with junior Lexie Brown scoring five points quickly from a layup and a three-pointer with a foul conversion. Brown, who played her first game in a Duke uniform, finished the night with 14 points, four rebounds, five assists and two steals.
Duke was quick to extend the lead in the second quarter with an 11-0 run in the first four minutes of action, highlighted by Chidom running coast to coast for two layups in under 20 seconds. Six turnovers by the Golden Eagles allowed for a 17-0 run for Duke, extending their lead to 63-24 at the end of the first half. The Blue Devils capitalized on Charleston's 40 turnovers to gain 62 points for the contest.
Sophomore Kyra Lambert added to the offensive success, causing nine steals. Lambert went 5-for-5 from the floor and ended the night with 10 points, five rebounds and three assists.
Senior Kendall Cooper and sophomore Crystal Primm totaled 10 points each and grabbed two and five boards, respectively.
By the beginning of the fourth quarter, Brown, Chidom, Cooper, Greenwell, Lambert, and Odom were in double figures, and seven Blue Devils finished the evening in double digits.
As a team, Duke shot 59.8 percent from the floor and recorded a 69.2 free throw percentage over four quarters of action.
Duke will kick off the 2016-17 campaign at Liberty Friday, Nov. 11 in Lynchburg before returning to Durham for the home opener against Penn Sunday, Nov. 13 at 2 p.m.
