Setting the Scene...
Riding a three-game winning streak to open the season, the Duke women's basketball team (3-0) will travel to Fort Worth, Texas, to compete in the Maggie Dixon Classic against Alabama (2-1) on Sunday, Nov. 21 at 2 p.m. (ET).
The game will be carried live on ESPN+ with Ron Thulin (PXP) and Fred Williams (Color) calling the action. The Blue Devil Sports Network will also carry the contest via WDNC AM 620, the Varsity Network app and www.GoDuke.com with Chris Edwards (PXP) on the air beginning at 1:45 p.m. (ET).
What is Next?...
Duke will return to Cameron Indoor Stadium for a three-game homestand as the Blue Devils prepare to host Appalachian State (Nov. 24), Troy (Nov. 28) and Iowa (Dec. 2).
A Look at Alabama...
Alabama enters Sunday with a 2-1 ledger earning victories over Charleston Southern and Southern Miss. Brittany Davis (21.7 points, 9.7 rebounds) has paced the Tide so far on the year, with Jada Rice (12.0) and JaMya Mingo-Young (10.7 points) also averaging double-digits.
Alabama head coach Kristy Curry owns an 0-4 record against the Blue Devils, with two losses at Purdue and two at Alabama.
The Series with Alabama...
Alabama and Duke will face off for the fourth time in program history, with Duke leading the series, 2-1. The two teams haven't met since Nov. of 2013 and 2014, with Duke winning both of those games.
In the last meeting, Duke won 90-40 on Nov. 16, 2014, in Alabama. The Blue devils are 1-0 in home games and 1-1 in away games.
Duke Versus the Southeastern Conference...
Duke owns a 40-27 mark against opponents in the Southeastern Conference -- Alabama (2-1), Arkansas (2-1), Auburn (5-0), Florida (2-1), Georgia (4-0), Kentucky (6-2), Louisiana State (3-2), Mississippi State (2-0), Missouri (0-1), South Carolina (2-5), Tennessee (6-5), Texas A&M (1-6), and Vanderbilt (5-3).
Storylines/Other Blue Devil Notes...
• Duke will see action in the Maggie Dixon Classic for the second time in school history. The Blue Devils last participated on Dec. 8, 2007, in New York, as Duke defeated Pittsburgh, 51-49.
• The Blue Devils are the only team in the ACC featuring nine different players averaging 5.7 points a game or more. Duke is also the only team in the ACC that has had eight different players score 10 or more points in a game this season.
• Duke and Alabama are averaging a combined 18.7 made 3-pointers per game and have attempted a combined 170 treys. The Blue Devils rank T-14th nationally in 3-point field goals made per game (10.0), while the Crimson Tide ranks 38th (8.7).
• Since arriving at Duke,
Vanessa de Jesus has a 2.46 assist/turnover ratio (32/13).
• Freshman
Shayeann Day-Wilson's 3.67 assists per game average ranks second in the ACC among freshmen (Olivia Miles of Notre Dame, 8.33).
• Duke's 26 blocked shots currently ranks fourth nationally and is the second-most through three games in Blue Devil history. The most was 28 in 2005-06. The 8.7 per game average ranks fourth nationally.
• The Blue Devils also rank 22nd in assists (62), fourth in offensive rebounds per game (20.3), 15th in rebound margin (16.7), 18th in 3-point field goals attempted (89) and 19th in 3-point field goals made (30).
• Duke has scored 119 points off the bench in three games for an average of 39.7, while its opponents are averaging only 8.7 a contest.
• In the seven games under
Kara Lawson since arriving, Duke has scored 70+ points in six of the seven contests. The Blue Devils have won every game in which they have scored 70 points or more. The only loss was to Louisville 73-49 last season.
• If Duke scores 70+ points against Alabama on Sunday, it will the first time the Blue Devils have scored 70+ points in each of the first four games of the season since the 2014-15 season. The Blue Devils scored 70+ points in each of the first five games to open the 2014-15 campaign.

Shayeann Day-Wilson has provided a big spark off the bench to open the season. At Dayton, she scored eight straight first quarter points, before going on to finish the game with a career-high 13 points on 5-of-7 field goals.

Imani Lewis' 30 career double-doubles entered the season ranking tied for 23rd nationally in the NCAA for active career leaders.

Elizabeth Balogun represented her home country of Nigeria in the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. She appeared in all three contests for the Nigerians and played with former Duke standout Oderah Chidom with Nigeria.

Heading Home to Lone Star State...
Duke will head to the Lone Star State this weekend, which will mean four Blue Devils will return to their home state of Texas --
Jordyn Oliver (Prosper, Texas),
Jade Williams (The Colony, Texas),
Nyah Green (Allen, Texas) and
Lexi Gordon (Fort Worth, Texas).
It will mark the second time Williams has played in her home state, as Duke played in College Station, Texas, on Nov. 10, 2019. Williams lives approximately 35 minutes away from the TCU campus and attended TCU camp in high school.
Oliver lives approximately 45 minutes away from TCU and received her first scholarship offer from the Horned Frogs.
Green's hometown is approximitely an hour away from TCU. She has been on campus many times and was offered a scholarship to play at TCU.
Hey, I Know You...
Duke graduate student
Lexi Gordon will face her sister, Myra Gordon, on Sunday when the Blue Devils take on Alabama. Myra is a sophomore for the Tide. The two have never played against each other. They played one season together at L.D. Bell High School.
Gordon, who is from Fort Worth, Texas, lives only 15 minutes away from the campus of TCU and both of her parents played basketball at TCU.
Her father, Myron, lettered for the Horned Frogs in 1993-94, while her mother, Kim Altman Gordon, lettered from 1992-96.
With both of their parents playing at TCU, Lexi and Myra grew up going to TCU all the time.
Lexi Gordon also played with Alabama's Kayla Wade-Warren, who also transferred from Texas Tech in the offseason. The duo played together with the Red Raiders in 2020-21.
Schmidt Heads Back to TCU...
Duke walk-on
Emma Schmidt will return to TCU this weekend where she recently graduated with a B.S. in mathematics with a concentration in actuarial science. She was a men's basketball manager for three seasons, before walking on to the women's team in 2020-21. She played in five contests.
Gordon & Taylor Playing at TCU...
When she was playing for Texas Tech,
Lexi Gordon played two games at TCU -- Jan. 23, 2021, with a 61-53 loss and Jan. 8, 2020, with an 80-76 victory.
In those two games, Gordon averaged 14.0 points, 12.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists. In 2020, she had a monster game with 15 points and 15 rebounds in 40 minutes.
In four career contests against her parent's alma mater, Gordon has averaged 20.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists. She had 30 points and 11 boards during her junior campaign in a game played at Texas Tech.
Celeste Taylor faced TCU on four different occasions, including two contests in Fort Worth, Texas. In those two games, Taylor averaged 17.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 0.5 blocked shots, while hitting 6-of-13 from 3-point land.

Amaya Finklea-Guity pulled down four rebounds against UNCW to move past 500 for her career.

Jade Williams will played in her 100th career game against UNCW.

Miela Goodchild needs 12 three-pointers to move into a tie for 10th on Duke's career 3-pointers made list. She owns 130 over four seasons.
