DURHAM – The Duke baseball opens postseason play with two pool play games at the 2021 ACC Baseball Championship hosted at Truist Park, home of the Charlotte Knights, in Charlotte, N.C.
FIRST PITCH
- Ninth-seeded Duke (28-20, 16-17 ACC) takes on No. 5 Florida State (29-21, 20-16) on Wednesday at 11 a.m. before facing No. 4 Miami (32-17, 20-15) on Thursday at 11 a.m. Both games will take place at Truist Park.
- The Blue Devils enter the postseason on an eight-game winning streak and have won 10 of their last 12 games.
- Duke ranks No. 27 in the RPI while also boasting the No. 1 nonconference RPI in the nation.
- The Blue Devils have hit 61 home runs this season, the fourth-most in a single season in program history and the most since 1998.
- Duke will appear in the ACC Championship for the fourth consecutive season and sixth time under head coach Chris Pollard.

ACC BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY
Duke will compete in the ACC Baseball Championship for the fifth consecutive season and sixth time under head coach
Chris Pollard. The Blue Devils are seeking their first ACC Championship title as they have not won the event in its 47 years of existence. Pollard holds a 5-6 record in the ACC Championship, advancing out of pool play in 2014 and 2017. Duke is looking for its first wins over Florida State and Miami at the event as it holds records of 0-7 and 0-1, respectively. The Blue Devils last met Florida State and Miami in the tournament during the semifinals of the 2017 and 2014 ACC Championship, respectively.
LOPERFIDO, SCHRECK EARN ALL-ACC HONORS

Joey Loperfido and junior
RJ Schreck earned All-ACC honors, the conference announced following the regular season. Loperfido earned Second Team All-ACC honors after leading the team and ranking in the top 10 in the conference in batting average (.360), on-base percentage (.469), runs (48), doubles (14), and stolen bases (11). Schreck was a Third Team All-ACC selection after hitting a slash line of .350/.453/.644, all career highs. His slugging percentage leads the team and ranks in the top 10 in program history for a single season. Schreck also boasts 15 home runs and 46 RBIs, both ranking in the top 10 in the conference this season.
LOPERFIDO NAMED ACC PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Joey Loperfido was named ACC Player of the Week on May 10 after a stellar week in the batter's box. Loperfido batted 10-for-15 through four games as the Blue Devils went 2-2. The Haddonfield, N.J., native went 2-for-4 against William & Mary in a midweek contest before leading the Blue Devils at No. 15 Louisville, going 8-for-11 (.727) with four runs, two doubles and a home run.
FIFTH YEARS COMING IN CLUTCH
During the third game of the last two series Duke has played, the Blue Devils have scored the game-winning run in the ninth inning with both coming off the bat of a fifth-year graduate student. Graduate students
Erikson Nichols and
Chase Cheek have showed their maturity and poise at the plate as Nichols hit an RBI single to walk off against Virginia Tech and Cheek's two-run home run in the top of the ninth with two outs during the regular season finale at Clemson secured the sweep for the Blue Devils.
FINISHING THE SEASON STRONG
The Blue Devils have finished the regular season in stellar fashion, winning eight consecutive games and 10 of their last 12. Duke was battling for a spot in the ACC Championship just two weeks ago, before sweeping Virginia Tech at home and Clemson on the road to solidify the No. 9 seed in the ACC Championship. In its last 12 games, Duke is hitting .327 while holding its opponents to a .251 batting average. Duke also boasts a 3.89 ERA since the exam break (May 4-pres.) while their opponents hold a 7.93 ERA.
JOHNSON CLOSING FOR DUKE
Sophomore
Marcus Johnson has emerged as Duke's go-to closer during the 2021 season. The Fontana, Calif., native has shown excellent control and pounded the strike zone, totaling 55 strikeouts to just nine walks in 47.1 innings pitched for a team-leading strikeout-to-walk ratio of 5.50. From April 13 to May 4, Johnson picked up two wins while allowing just four hits and two walks and fanning 17 batters in 11 scoreless innings pitched. In addition, he held batters to a .111 batting average.
UTILIZING THE LONGBALL
The 2021 Duke offense has been one of the most powerful offenses in program history. The Blue Devils have hit 61 home runs, the fourth-most in program history and the most under head coach

RJ Schreck has led the way, totaling 15 home runs, which ranks tied for seventh in program history in a single season, and ranks in the top 10 in the conference. From April 11 to May 11, the Blue Devils erupted at the plate, hitting 32 long balls in 14 games during the month span.
WELCOME TO K-VILLE
The Blue Devil pitching staff has ascended to new heights over the past three seasons, shattering the school's single-season strikeout record in 2018 and 2019. This season, Duke is continuing to strike out batters at record rates, fanning 459 batters in just 421.2 innings pitched.

JOHNSON AND FOX STELLAR IN APRIL

Marcus Johnson and freshman
Luke Fox were stellar on the bump for the Blue Devils in the month of April. Johnson (1.15) and Fox (1.20) ranked first and second in the ACC in ERA for the month, both holding opposing batters to a sub-.200 batting average. The duo combined to allow just four earned runs on 16 hits and five walks while striking out 41 batters in 30.2 innings of work in the month of April.
TRIPLING INTO THE NCAA RECORD BOOKS
Junior
Ethan Murray tripled twice in the fourth inning against Campbell on April 13. Murray's pair of triples in a single inning was just the ninth time that has happened in Division I NCAA history, and the first time since 2008. In addition, Duke's three triples against Campbell were the most in a single game since 2017.
DUKE CONTINUES K'S 4 KIDS' CANCER
Duke baseball announced the renewal of the K's 4 Kids' Cancer campaign, which is now in its third season with the team. Fans can help Duke baseball strikeout children's cancer by making a pledge for every strikeout that Blue Devil pitchers rack up this season. In just two years, the campaign has raised over $25,000 and all funds go directly to support cancer research and patient care at Duke Children's Hospital.
