A LOOK BACK
Senior
Maddie Jenner's goal with 1:21 remaining pushed seventh-ranked Duke past second-ranked Boston College, 16-15, in thrilling women's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon in Koskinen Stadium. With the victory, the Blue Devils won their ninth game in a row, improved to 15-1, 6-1 ACC and handed the Eagles just their second loss of the season (13-2, 5-2 ACC). Duke's record is tied with its best start since 2006, when the Blue Devils were ACC regular season champions and reached the NCAA semifinal game. The Blue Devils were led by two with hat tricks as graduate student
Abby Landry recorded her 100th career point with three goals. Saturday marked Landry's third straight game with a hat trick while
Catriona Barry,
Anna Callahan,
Eva Greco and Jenner all added three points in the victory. The Blue Devils' defensive unit was tough as nails the entire game and had one of the most powerful offenses in the country scrambling. Redshirt junior
Maddie Johnston paced the defense with a career-high five ground balls to go along with three caused turnovers. Senior goalkeeper
Sophia LeRose got the start between the pipes and finished the contest with eight saves while rookie
Kennedy Everson saw quality minutes and collected a huge save from a Charlotte North free-position attempt at 5:52 in the fourth.
SCOUTING THE TAR HEELS
The Tar Heels enter their regular-season finale as the top ranked team in the nation with a flawless 14-0, 7-0 ACC record. Offensively, North Carolina is led by Jamie Ortega (76 pts.), Caitlyn Wurzburger (56 pts.), Scottie Rose Growney (46 pts.) and Andie Aldave (41 pts.) as the Tar Heels boast the third-best scoring offense in the nation. Veteran goalkeeper Taylor Moreno has amassed nearly 800 minutes in the cage and owns a 8.77 GAA and a .474 save percentage. Saturday will feature two of the most high-powered offenses in the nation. Duke averages 17.88 goals/game and 35.40 shots/game while North Carolina produces 17.71 goals/game and 34.60 shots/game.
