DURHAM – The fourth-ranked Duke women's tennis team continued their homestand on Saturday with a 7-0 victory over Harvard inside the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center in Durham, N.C.
With the win, the Blue Devils improved to 6-0 on the year, while the Crimson dropped to 3-3. Duke collected its 17th straight home win in the process. Â
How It Happened
•   For the sixth straight match to open the season, the Blue Devils took the doubles point with victories on all three courts.
•   Duke's 13th-ranked duo of
Chloe Beck and
Cameron Morra were impressive from the start taking a 3-0 lead on Sophia Ho and Maxi Duncan, before closing the match with a 6-1 win.
•  Â
Emma Jackson and
Iuliia Bryzgalova then clinched the doubles point for the Blue Devils with a 6-3 victory over Charlotte Owensby and Angel You on court No. 3. The Duke tandem went ahead, 3-1, but the Crimson battled back to cut the Blue Devil lead to 4-3. Jackson/Bryzgalova won the final two games to clinch the point. •   On court No. 2, Duke's
Ellie Coleman and
Karolina Berankova jumped ahead, 2-0, but Rachel Arbitman and Iveta Daujotaite responded by winning three straight games to go ahead, 3-2. Coleman and Berankova came back and went ahead, 4-3. After Harvard evened the match, 5-5, Duke won the final two games to win, 7-5.
•   Coming off providing the clinching point against Wisconsin last weekend, senior
Georgia Drummy put Duke's second point on the board with a 6-1, 6-1 singles win on court No. 4 against You. Â
•   Duke's 22nd-ranked Jackson put the Blue Devils ahead, 3-0, with a 6-2, 6-0 win on court No. 3. Jackson dropped the first game, before winning six out of the next seven to win the first set and did not drop a game in the second set. Â
•   For the second time this season and 10th time in her career, Beck clinched the victory for Duke with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Owensby on court one. Â
•   With the Blue Devils leading, 4-0, Coleman registered a 6-1, 6-2 win over Sany Gawande on court five. Â
•   After dropping the first set, 4-6, and trailing 2-3 in the second set, Morra made an impressive comeback against Duncan. With the match even, 3-3, in the second, Morra trailed 30-40, but was able to come back and hold serve to take a 4-3 lead. Morra broke serve to take a 5-3 lead and eventually win the second set 6-3. In the third set 10-point tiebreaker, Morra trailed 5-8, but mounted a huge comeback to win the match, 10-8. Â

Brianna Shvets faced Mihaela Marculescu on court six, which came down to a thrilling finish. Shvets won the first set, 6-3, and then Marculescu won the second set, 6-3. Shvets was down for most of the third set tiebreaker, before coming back to take the match, 13-11. Â

•   Duke won its 32nd consecutive match when winning the doubles point. Â

Cameron Morra improved to 18-3 on the season and 5-0 in dual match action with the doubles win on court No. 1.
•   Beck registered her eighth straight singles win to improve to 88-23 over her career.
•   Morra now owns an 11-6 overall record this season and 98-39 ledger over her career. Â

Emma Jackson has now won eight out of her last 10 singles matches to improve to 10-5 on the season and 4-0 in dual match action. Â

Georgia Drummy won her 10th straight singles dual match and improved to 60-19 over her career in dual matches. Â

•   The Blue Devil duo of Jackson and

Brianna Shvets moved to 11-4 overall, 4-0 in dual match action and 70-30 over her career in singles.
•   Duke registered its 17th-straight home victory.
•   The Blue Devils moved to 6-0 all-time in the series against Harvard and won their 27th straight match against an Ivy League opponent. Â

Duke will close an eight-match homestand on Sunday, Feb. 5 as the Blue Devils host Georgetown at 2 p.m., and North Carolina Central at 6:30 p.m.
