DURHAM, N.C. – No. 16 Duke men's soccer (5-2-4, 2-1-3 ACC) played to a 0-0 draw against Wake Forest (5-3-5, 2-1-2 ACC) on Saturday evening at Koskinen Stadium.
Duke offered the first chance of the night in the 2nd minute of play, as
Kenan Hot rifled a shot from just outside the penalty area directly at the Demon Deacons' goalkeeper. Both sides found a rhythm in the middle portion of the first half, before Wake Forest was awarded a penalty kick in the 32nd minute.
Cooper Flax stepped to the penalty spot and gave
Wessel Speel as hesitation step, but Speel dove to his left and kept the match scoreless heading to the half. At the break, Duke led the shot totals 7-6 but trailed on the shots on goal tally 4-1.
In the second half, Duke sprung a trio of chances as
Adam Luckhurst forced Trace Alphin to make a kick save before
Ruben Mesalles and
Ulfur Bjornsson had shots blocked in front. With less than a minute remaining in regulation, Hot hit a screamer from 25 yards out that Alphin forced aside with his left hand.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the second minute of action, Kenan Hot had the match's first opportunity, rifling a shot from 18 yards out that was corralled by the Wake Forest goalkeeper.
- Late in the first half, Wake Forest found space behind the Duke defense and was awarded a penalty kick in the 32nd minute. Cooper Flax stepped to the spot to attempt the kick, but Wessel Speel dove to his right keeping the match scoreless.
- At the half, Duke led the shot totals 7-6, but the Demon Deacons held the shot on goal tally, 4-1. The Blue Devils also registered four saves and held the advantage in corners 6-1.
- Early in the second half, Duke sprung a trio of chances as Adam Luckhurst forced Wake Forest to make a save before Ruben Mesalles and Ulfur Bjornsson had shots blocked.
- The best chance of the second half came in the 89th minute off the right foot of Hot. Hot's shot was tracking towards the top left corner, but Trace Alphin pushed it wide with his top hand.

- Duke improves to 2-1-3 in the ACC this season, tallying nine points heading into the off-week.
- Graduate Wessel Speel tied a season-high with five saves on the night, including stopping a penalty kick in the 32nd minute.
- Duke outshot the Demon Deacons 17-12, while Wake Forest led the shots on goal tally 5-4.
- The Blue Devils recorded 13 corners in the match to the Demon Deacons four, while Wake Forest was whistled for six offsides.
