Evans, Kim Lead Duke to Runner-Up Finish at Bryson Invitational

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Led by top-four individual finishes from senior Ethan Evans and junior Bryan Kim, the Duke men's golf team closed out an impressive performance at The Bryson Invitational on Wednesday, finishing in a tie for second place at 23-under par at Daniel Island Club's Ralston Creek course.
The Blue Devils entered the final round in third place at 15-under-par as a team and posted another 8-under 280 to secure their best team finish since winning the season opener in September. Duke carded rounds of 281, 280 and 280 to post a 54-hole total of 841 (-23), matching No. 21 Wake Forest and finishing just seven strokes behind No. 3 Vanderbilt (834, -30) for the team title. Kansas (842, -22) and South Carolina (851, -13) rounded out the top five in a competitive 15-team field with three programs ranked in the top 25 of the latest Bushnell/Golfweek Division I Coaches Poll along with six others receiving votes.
Evans delivered his best finish of the season, climbing the leaderboard over the final 36 holes. The senior shot 69 (-3) on Tuesday to move up six spots into eighth place, then fired a 7-under 65 in the final round - matching his career-best score - to jump another seven positions and finish tied for second at 12-under 204. His 7-under-par score also marked the lowest single round by a Blue Devil this season.
Kim followed closely behind in solo fourth at 11-under 205 (68-69-68), extending his streak of under-par rounds to six straight and marking his 10th under-par round in 12 outings this fall. The junior's performance was also his third top-five finish in four tournaments this season.
Duke was the only team to boast two golfers in the top six spots on the leaderboard.
Competing as an individual, senior Daniel Choi tied for 29th at 1-under 215 (69-74-72), posting season-best marks for both single-round score (69, -3) and 54-hole total. Sophomore John Hiller tied for 38th at even-par 216 (75-70-71), senior William Love tied for 59th at 4-over 220 (72-72-76) and sophomore Sam Mukherjee tied for 63rd at 5-over 221 (71-74-76).
Next up, the Blue Devils will close their fall slate Oct. 24-26 in Alpharetta, Georgia, at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate - an event Duke won last season.
