PANAMA CITY, Fla. – Less than 24 hours after a dramatic rally to reach match play, Duke returned to Shark's Tooth Golf Course on Sunday morning, but the Blue Devils fell to top-seeded Stanford, 3-1, in the ACC Men's Golf Championship quarterfinals.
Duke leaned on senior
Ethan Evans, who continued his standout weekend with a convincing victory, but the Cardinal secured wins in three matches to advance.
The Blue Devils battled throughout the morning, with multiple matches tightly contested on the front nine, but Stanford capitalized down the stretch to pull away in the decisive moments.
How It Happened
- Ethan Evans dropped two of the first four holes against Stanford's Nathan Wang, but responded with birdies on holes six and eight to take a 1UP lead. The senior seized control on the back nine, stringing together three consecutive birdies beginning at No. 11 to close out a 4&3 victory.
- William Love opened strong with a birdie on the third hole to go 1UP, but Stanford's Edan Cui answered with three straight birdies to build a 2UP advantage. Cui added birdies on Nos. 13 and 16 to secure a 4&2 win.
- Ollie Mukherjee held a narrow edge through five holes against Jay Leng before the Stanford golfer moved ahead by two through 12. Mukherjee trimmed the deficit with a birdie, but Leng responded with three birdies over the next four holes to clinch a 2&1 decision.
- Bryan Kim fell behind early as Stanford's Dean Greyserman birdied Nos. 3 and 4, then extended his lead with additional birdies on Nos. 8 and 13 en route to a 5&4 result.
- The match between Daniel Choi and Stanford's Ethan Gao featured six lead changes and remained within a single hole throughout. Gao held a 1UP advantage when the overall team match was decided, leaving the contest unfinished.
