EAST HAMPTON, N.Y. – Duke sophomore
Carson Looney earned his second top-10 finish in three tournaments this fall, placing seventh at the Hamptons Intercollegiate as the Blue Devils climbed three positions on the team leaderboard during Tuesday's final round at Maidstone Club.
Looney closed the 54-hole event at even-par 216 (71-72-73), moving up four spots on the individual leaderboard during the final round. The Bethesda, Maryland, native has now finished among the top 10 twice in his first three appearances as a Blue Devil.
Duke posted an 11-over 299 on Tuesday to move from 11th into a tie for eighth place at 30-over 894 (294-301-299). The Blue Devils tied tournament host Loyola Maryland in the 12-team field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Looney paced Duke throughout the tournament, opening with a 1-under 71 before carding an even-par 72 in the second round. His final-round 73 secured seventh place at even-par 216, four positions better than where he began Tuesday.
- Senior Bryan Kim joined Looney as Duke's second finisher inside the top 25, tying for 22nd at 6-over 222. Kim opened with a 1-under 71 before rounds of 76 and 75.
- Sam Mukherjee recorded Duke's best score in Tuesday's final round, carding a 2-over 74 to move into a tie for 42nd at 12-over 228 (77-77-74).Â
- Ollie Mukherjee tied for 45th at 13-over 229 (75-77-77), while freshman Clark Mason finished tied for 53rd at 18-over 234 (78-76-80).
- Duke began Tuesday in 11th place following rounds of 294 and 301 on Monday. The Blue Devils' final-round 299 moved them past Harvard and Georgetown and into a tie with Loyola Maryland for eighth.
NOTES
- Looney's seventh-place result marks his second top-10 finish through Duke's first three tournaments of the 2026-27 campaign.
- Looney tied for the tournament lead with 14 birdies, matching his birdie total from his first five rounds of the campaign. He now leads Duke with 28 birdies through eight rounds.
- The sophomore also tied for fourth in the field in par-4 scoring, averaging 4.10 (+3) for the tournament. He has posted a team-leading five rounds of par or better this fall.
- As a team, Duke ranked third in the field with 48 birdies and tied for fifth in par-5 scoring at 9-under, averaging 4.85.
- Duke improved three positions during Tuesday's final round, its largest upward move of the tournament.
