Kaiya Chepow was named the ACC Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts in a 2-0 weekend for the Blue Devils. This is the first weekly award of Chepow's career.
Chepow had another strong weekend with nine saves to earn her ninth and 10th victories of the season. The first-year starter turned in a career performance at Boston College Friday, making six saves en route to the 3-1 Duke victory. Afte securing a pair of stops in the first 30 minutes, Chepow made four second-half saves to hold off the Eagles for a fourth ACC triumph.
Two days later at UConn, Chepow made three saves to post her fourth shutout of the season and the sixth for the Blue Devils. She made one save in the first quarter and two in the third period, lowering her goals against average to 0.83 for the year.
Chepow ranks third in the ACC and seventh in the nation in goals against average. Her .714 save percentage is fourth in the conference and 19th nationally while Duke's six shutouts this season are tied for seventh nationally and second in the ACC.
The eighth-ranked Blue Devils are 10-4 overall and 4-2 in league action with four regular season games remaining. Duke hosts No. 6 Wake Forest Friday, Oct. 24 at 5 p.m., and closes the regular season home slate with Old Dominion Sept. 26 at 1 p.m.
