MIAMI, Fla. – The Duke volleyball team fell in straight sets at No. 14 Miami, 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-14), Friday night inside Knight Complex. Sophomore Taylor Williams led the Blue Devils with nine kills, reaching the 500 career-termination milestone.
Freshman Charlotte Glass dished out a team-best 24 helpers, while sophomore Mailinh Godschall led the effort in the back row with seven digs. Duke falls to a 5-23 overall record, including a 2-15 mark in conference matches, while Miami improves to 23-5 on the year and a 13-3 ACC ledger.
How It Happened
Set One – Duke 20, Miami 25
- Miami took the early match lead with a 25-20 win in the opening frame. Miami held a 9-6 advantage before Duke rallied with a 5-2 run to even the set at 11-11. The Hurricanes regained control and built a 17-14 margin, but the Blue Devils responded with a three-point run to knot the score at 17-17. The teams exchanged points, with the final tie coming at 20-20, before Miami closed out the set by securing the final five points.
Set Two – Duke 22, Miami 25
- The Hurricanes took the second set with a 25-22 triumph. Miami jumped out to an 8-5 lead before the Blue Devils cut the margin to one, 10-9, with a 4-2 spurt sparked by two kills and a block assist from Williams. Miami responded with a 4-0 stretch to establish a 14-9 advantage. Duke momentarily halted the Hurricanes' momentum with a 4-1 run, but Miami extended its lead to 19-15 by taking four of the next six points. Duke tied the set at 21-21 with a 6-2 push, but Miami closed the frame by claiming four of the final five points.
Set Three – Duke 14, Miami 25
- Miami clinched its sweep with a 25-14 victory in set three. The frame was tied at 5-5 before the Hurricanes broke away with a 12-2 run to build a 17-7 edge. Williams found a rhythm, tallying three kills to ignite a 5-3 Duke spurt that trimmed the deficit to 20-12, but Miami closed out the match by securing five of the final seven marks.
