DURHAM, N.C. – The No. 21 Duke women's lacrosse team remained undefeated at home this season and head coach
Kerstin Kimel earned her 350th victory at Duke as the Blue Devils downed Xavier 16-9 Sunday morning inside Koskinen Stadium. The No. 21 Blue Devils improved to 4-2 while the Musketeers dropped to 0-3.

Hem hit 150 career goals with her first of today's game, ranking 14
th among active Division I players for most career goals. She has tallied 16 goals so far this season, two Friday against Notre Dame and three today. Kimel, in her 30
th season with the Blue Devils, also reached 350 Duke career wins. She ranks sixth among active Division I coaches for most career wins and is just one of eight active Division I coaches to surpass the 350-win mark.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Xavier struck first, but Shearer answered with consecutive goals to give Duke a 2-1 lead with 4:57 left in the first.
- A scoring flurry in the final 2:30 of the first quarter made it a 4-2 Blue Devil advantage at the end of the frame. Xavier's Kirra Crowley evened the score at 2-2, but Duke goals from freshman Maddie MacDonald and senior Carly Bernstein pushed the Blue Devils back in front.
- Duke out shot Xavier 12-5 in the opening quarter with a 10-3 edge in shots on goal. Musketeer goalkeeper Teegan Lannon kept the contest close with six saves in the first quarter alone.
- The Blue Devils continued their momentum into the second quarter as Goodwin and sophomore Caitlin Barrett struck within the first three minutes to make it a 6-2 Duke edge. Following a Xavier goal to make it a 6-3 contest, the Blue Devils scored four consecutive goals to lead 10-3.
- The Musketeers tallied another strike with four seconds left in the first half and got the first goal of the third quarter to cut the deficit to 10-5. Duke answered with the next five scores for a 15-5 advantage with 5:55 to go in the third. Hem scored two more during the stretch while MacDonald added her second of the contest.
- Xavier went on a 3-0 run spanning the end of the third and start of the fourth to make it 15-8 with 7:25 remaining.
- Duke redshirt freshman Lena Doreen tallied her first career goal with 6:39 to play for the final Blue Devil point.
- Xavier slotted in the final goal of the game with 5:54 remaining making it 16-9 for the Blue Devils.
- Defensively, junior Madison Beale had four caused turnovers and freshman Sadie Stafford followed with two. Sophomore Reese Woodworth led the team with three ground balls while freshman Mabel Overbeck, Goodwin, Beale and Stafford each recorded two.
NOTES
- Duke improved to 4-0 at home this season and extended its overall home winning streak to eight. Duke's last home loss was a March 23, 2024, setback to No. 4 Boston College.
- Head coach Kerstin Kimel earned 350 career Duke wins.
- The Blue Devils won the first meeting in series history with Xavier.
- Junior goalkeeper Madison Drebing made her season debut and finished with two saves.
- Senior Kerry Nease collected a season-high two assists.
- Redshirt freshman Lena Doreen scored her first career goal.
- Three different Blue Devils recorded hat tricks: Callie Hem, Bella Goodwin and Mattie Shearer.
- Duke recorded its season-high of 37 shots and 30 shots on goal. The Blue Devils also recorded their season-high 27 points, 17 caused turnovers and 23 ground balls.
- Callie Hem has surpassed 150 career goals and led the team's offense today recording five points.
- Three different goalies, Kennedy Everson, Madison Drebing and Chloe Provenzano, saw action in today's game and collectively recorded eight saves.
