CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Duke field hockey's run in the ACC Championship came to an end Tuesday evening as the Blue Devils (12-5) fell, 2-1, to No. 6 seed Boston College (9-9) in the quarterfinals at Karen Shelton Stadium.
Sophomore
Shae Wozniak tallied the lone Duke goal, with her score marking her fourth tally of the season. Classmate
Juliette Schulten provided the assist to the goal, collecting her second helper on the year.
Duke finished the contest with a 10-9 edge in shots – despite being held without an attempt in the first half – and generated five penalty corners.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Offense was at a minimum during the opening stanza, with Boston College tallying the only two shots of the quarter. Junior goaltender Kaiya Chepow turned away the Eagles' first attempt two minutes into the game, but BC was able to convert on a set piece to grab a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute. The Blue Devils generated a penalty corner of their own in the 13th minute but couldn't get off a clean shot.
- The Eagles doubled their lead at 17:37 on Maren Boyle's second goal of the evening, and would go on to take a 2-0 margin into the half.
- Duke came out firing in the third quarter putting up five shots across the 15 minutes with three on frame. After being denied at the doorstep on the first two attempts, the Blue Devils finally broke through in the 44th minute, slicing the deficit in half on Wozniak's fourth goal of the season.
- Following the initial penalty corner insert, Schulten rifled a shot towards the front of the cage and Wozniak was able to get her stick on the ball and slot it home for the redirect goal at 43:42.
- The Blue Devils kept the intensity up in the fourth quarter as they looked for the equalizer, eventually pulling Chepow for an extra player down the stretch. Duke put five more shots up on the board, including a breakaway chance by graduate student Alaina McVeigh, but couldn't manage to find the tying goal.
GAME NOTES:
- Wozniak notched her fourth goal of the season, while Schulten dished out her second assist of 2026.
- The Blue Devils fall to 12-5 on the year and drop to 22-44 in the ACC Championship.
- Chepow collected two saves in the cage, pushing her season total to 102 stops.
