DURHAM, N.C.— For the second time over the last month, the Duke women's golf team will head to the state of Florida to compete. The 13th-ranked Blue Devils travel to Melbourne, Florida, for the Moon Golf Invitational Feb. 15-17 on the Suntree Country Club Classic Course.
The event will feature an impressive field that includes Alabama, Auburn (#8), Duke (#13), Florida (#5), Florida State (#24), Louisville, LSU, Mississippi (#14), Mississippi State (#16), NC State, South Carolina (#18), Tennessee (#22), Texas (#9), Texas A&M (#6), UCF (#15), Virginia and Wake Forest (#7). The field includes 12 teams ranked in the top 25 nationally.
Each team will play 18 holes all three days with tee times opening from 8-10:20 a.m., Sunday and Monday followed by a shotgun start at 9 a.m., Tuesday.
Duke will travel a lineup that includes graduate student
Andie Smith, junior
Katie Li, sophomore
Carla De Troia, sophomore
Anna Cañado Espinal and freshman
Avery McCrery. Blue Devil rookie
Rianne Malixi did not travel with the team as she is competing in the Women's Amateur Asia Pacific in New Zealand.
Smith, a native of Hobe Sound, returns to her home state of Florida for the second event in a row.
The Blue Devils will compete in the Moon Golf Invitational for the third time in program history.
Duke is coming off an impressive spring opener as the Blue Devils shot 27-under-par, 837, to finish runner-up at the Sea Best Intercollegiate. Five Blue Devils finished in the top eight of the individual leaderboard with Malixi earning her first collegiate individual title with a 16-under, 200.
The Blue Devils will open action Sunday beginning at 8:50 a.m., along with Florida State and Alabama off hole No. 1.
