DURHAM, N.C. – Duke's offense erupted Tuesday night as the Blue Devils plated a season-high 17 runs against UNC Wilmington in non-conference softball action at Smith Family Stadium.
The Blue Devils (19-10, 5-1 ACC) used runs in every inning to roll past the Seahawks (15-11, 3-0 CAA), 17-0, claiming their fifth run-rule victory of the season.

Aminah Vega and graduate student
Tyrina Jones highlighted the night, accounting for seven of 17 total runs. Shadek recorded the first multi-home run game of her career after launching a solo shot in the third and a two-run blast in the fourth inning. The Kinnelon, New Jersey, native finished 2-for-2 with three RBI and two runs scored, while Vega and Jones went 1-for-2 and 1-for-4, respectively.
Freshman
Ava Bradshaw, sophomore
Mallory Wheeler and senior
Cassidy Curd combined to one-hit the Seahawks. Bradshaw earned the start while Wheeler picked up the win, each tossing 2.0 innings on the night. Curd entered in the top of the fifth to close the game out, working the final inning of relief.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Redshirt junior Jessica Oakland dropped a base hit into shallow right field to open the scoring in the bottom of the first. The knock brought in senior D'Auna Jennings after she led off with a double and moved up on a flyout to left field.
- The Blue Devil offense began to gain momentum in the bottom of the second, adding five runs off three hits to stretch a six-run lead.
- Shadek opened the third with a solo home run before four straight walks plated another Duke run. Sophomore Layla Lamar followed with a two-out double to right field to extend the gap, 10-0.
- The Blue Devils sealed the run-rule victory with a seven-run frame in the bottom of the fourth, highlighted by Shadek's second home run of the game and a three-run blast from Vega. Jones later added a solo homer to make it 17-0.
NOTES
- Shadek matched her career high with three RBI during the contest.
- Jones now owns a team-high 10 home runs on the year.
- Wheeler moves her season ledger to 4-3 overall.
- Duke tallied its third shutout of the season.
- The win marked the team's largest margin of victory since defeating Michigan State, 22-0, in five innings during the 2024 Duke Invitational.
- The Blue Devils lead the all-time series, 6-0, outscoring the Seahawks 52-4 during that stretch.
