DURHAM, N.C. – Duke baseball C/OF
Cider Canon sustained a lower-body injury on Sunday, March 1 and will be out for a minimum of eight weeks. The junior's status will be re-evaluated at the start of May.
"We're extremely disappointed for Cider, but I know that myself, the rest of our coaches, and our training staff will be supporting him every step of the way with his recovery," said head coach
Corey Muscara. "I'm confident in his ability to continue to impact our team's culture and approach, even from off the field, during this process."
Canon, a native of San Marino, Calif., had started in all 14 games he'd appeared in to begin the 2026 season. Through those games, he led the Blue Devils in hits (19), home runs (6), RBI (21), slugging percentage (.952), on-base percentage (.574) and OPS (1.526). Primarily playing at catcher, Canon had opened the season with three runners caught stealing and held a perfect fielding percentage across 88 chances.
Duke (12-3) opens ACC play on Friday, March 6, hosting Notre Dame (7-3) at Jack Coombs Field. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
