HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jordan Regulski made his third career start and logged his first career strikeout in the top of the first, working around a two-out walk to pitch a clean opening frame.Â
- The Blue Devils immediately got on the board, scoring four runs before recording an out. Jake Lambdin opened the scoring, coming home on a throwing error, followed by Tyler Albright driving in RJ Hamilton with an RBI double.
- Kaden Smith homered two pitches later, his second home run for the Blue Devils. After a double by Matthew Strand, Adin Zorn brought in another run with an RBI single, closing out Duke's five-run first.Â
- Another scoreless frame by Regulski was followed by one run in the bottom half, with Michael Dimartini driving in two with an RBI single with two outs.
- Albright increased Duke's lead to 8-0 with a sacrifice fly in the third inning. Regulski registered two outs in the top of the fourth, but only after three runs crossed the plate for Gardner-Webb. Edward Hart entered in relief to get the final out of the inning.Â
- Strand hit his second double of the night in the bottom of the fourth, bringing home DiMartini. Duke added another run after a wild pitch.
- Another five-run frame in the bottom of the sixth featured three runs coming home on wild pitches, an RBI triple by Collin Anderson, who eventually came home for the game's final run on a fielding error.
- The duo of David Boisvert and Roman DiGiacomo combined to get the final three outs, in the top of the seventh.
