CARY, N.C. – The Duke men's tennis team opened the postseason with a 4-0 victory against Boston College in the first round of the ACC Championship at the Cary Tennis Park.Â
Â
After the doubles point was decided in a tiebreaker on court one, the Blue Devils cruised through singles, dropping just 12 games in the three straight-set wins. With his singles victory on court one,Â
Pedro Rodenas became the 17th member of Duke's 100-win club.Â
"Pedro got to 100 wins, which is very special," head coach
Ramsey Smith said. "He took the fall off, so he missed one semester. Something we talked about his first day back on campus in January with goals was 100 wins was something he was shooting for. It's important to point out what an incredible semester he's having. Two of his losses are the No. 1 and No. 2 players in the country. He's been such a leader on the court and off the court. To see him mature, and he's now one of the all-time best players to come through the program. He is built for the team environment. He loves the team so much. I'm just really proud of him and excited for him to be finishing like this."
Â
The No. 45 Blue Devils upped their record to 14-12 and advance to the second round, where they will face No. 43 Miami at 10 a.m., Thursday.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Boston College took the first doubles win as Luke Levanat and Matvey Greschner topped Dylan Long and Teddy Truwit, 6-1, on court two.
- Duke rebounded on court three, where Alexander Visser and Gerard Planelles Ripoll defeated Liam O'Leary and Matthew Carioscia, 6-4. Duke's pair turned a 1-1 tie into a 3-1 lead with a break and hold. The Eagle pair could not force a break and got no closer than a game the rest of the way.Â
- The point came down to a tiebreaker on court one with Duke's No. 13 team of Cooper Williams and Pedro Rodenas slipping past Aidan Pack and Matthew Overvelde, 7-6 (4). The set was even at 1-1, 2-2, 3-3, 4-4 and 5-5 before Duke broke to take a 6-5 lead. The Eagles answered with a break of their own to send the match to the tiebreaker. Again, the difference was quite small in the tiebreaker as the two were knotted at 1-1, 2-2, 3-3 and 4-4 before Duke captured the final three to end it and earn the doubles point.Â
- Rodenas made it 2-0 Duke and picked up career singles win No. 100 with a 6-2, 6-0 victory against Carioscia on court one. In the first set, Carioscia took the first game, but Rodenas won 12 of the next 13 for the match. Rodenas upped his mark to 16-3 in dual matches this year.Â
- Williams pushed Duke's lead to 3-0 with a 6-4, 6-2 triumph on court two against Greschner. Williams started fast with a break and hold to take a 2-0 advantage. Greschner got the deficit to within one four times, but Williams was not broken and closed out the set. In the second, Williams flipped a 2-2 tie into the set by taking the final four games. Williams is now 15-5 in dual matches and 12-1 on court two.Â
- Clinching for Duke was Saahith Jayaraman, who topped Lukas Rais, 6-2, 6-2, on court six. Jayaraman turned a 1-1 tie in the first set into a 4-1 lead. Rais broke to make it 4-2, but Jayaraman broke right back to regain control at 5-2 before closing out the set. In the second, Jayaraman broke in game one to quickly go up 2-0. Leading 3-1, Jayaraman broke again to take command before finishing off the match. Jayaraman evened his dual match mark to 8-8.Â

QUOTES
"It feels great. It was great. A long ride. I did put it a little bit in my head after freshman year, I think, after getting so many wins that year. I know Ramsey [Smith] got to 100 wins. I put it as a goal this year to try to get up to 100. And now I'm super excited for tomorrow. My career has been a bit of a roller coaster. There have been so many up and downs. Even through the downs, I've had so much support. I've  had so much fun with every team I've had here. But we're playing well and I'm pretty confident in our guys. Everything's on the line and now we're going to try our best." - Duke's
Pedro Rodenas
"A great team win and I say full credit to BC. They play great. I was really impressed with how they improved from the first time we played them. In doubles, they really went after it and pushed us. We had to come through in a tiebreaker there at one. IÂ felt like we got better as the match went on. We're in a really good place going into tomorrow. I'm excited to play Miami in a neutral place. I feel like this is almost like a home situation for us in Cary. We play so many matches and events here. I know our guys are extremely motivated. That was a tough loss down to Miami at their place. They competed extremely well. I know we're going to be ready to go." - Duke head coach
