DURHAM, N.C. – Duke women's golfers have continued to compete across the globe this summer, posting strong performances in amateur and professional events. Below is a look at how the Blue Devils have fared in recent weeks.
Cañado Espinal Competes on Ladies European Tour
Duke rising junior
Anna Cañado Espinal traveled to Belgium for the Hulencourt Women's Open from July 2-5. It marked the first Ladies European Tour event of her career.
Over the four days, Cañado Espinal was one of only two amateurs to make the cut, carding rounds of 75, 73, 74 and 75 for a 9-over, 297. She finished tied for 59th overall.
McCrery Sees Action in North & South Women's Amateur
Rising sophomore
Avery McCrery competed locally in the North & South Women's Amateur in Pinehurst June 30-July 1. After turning in rounds of 75 and 72 in stroke-play qualifying, McCrery missed the cut by one stroke with a 3-over, 147.
Seven Duke Golfers Compete at The Women's Amateur
A total of seven Blue Devils competed in The Women's Amateur Championship June 22-27 at Muirfield, Scotland –
Katie Li,
Rianne Malixi,
Avery McCrery,
Carla De Troia,
Anna Cañado Espinal,
Andie Smith and Mia Hammond.
In stroke-play qualifying over 36 holes, Malixi placed tied for second with rounds of 69 and 68 for a 5-under, 137. Li posted scores of 71 and 72 for a 1-over, 143 to place tied for 26th. De Troia also advanced to match play by finishing tied for 47th with rounds of 76 and 69 for a 3-over, 145.
De Troia dropped a 6 and 5 contest to Jazy Roberts, Li lost, 4 and 2, to Vanessa Borovilos and Malixi fell, 3 and 2, to Cayetana Fernandez in the first round of match play.
The following Duke golfers missed the cut -- Cañado Espinal (73-76=149, T84), Hammond (77-74=151, T103), Smith (72-79=151, T103) and McCrery (75-78=153, T119).
