DURHAM, N.C. – Year nine of the Birdies for Babies program recently concluded, with the Duke golf programs raising $20,152 during the 2025-26 season to benefit the Duke Children's Neonatal and Pediatric Intensive Care Units.
Both programs combined to register an impressive 1,411 birdies and 27 eagles this season. Over the history of the program, which was created by
Virginia Elena Carta, Birdies for Babies has now raised more than $152,323 over its nine seasons.
Even though the season is complete, you can still make a one-time donation
here. Heading into the 2026-27 campaign, if you are interested in supporting Duke's partnership with Duke Children's, you can pledge an amount for each birdie made during the season or make a one-time donation. Pledges start at $0.50, with higher increments also welcome. If the Blue Devils register an eagle (counted as two birdies), albatross (three birdies) or hole-in-one (four birdies), those achievements will be counted accordingly. For more information, click

Led by women's golf coach
Dan Brooks and men's golf coach
Bob Heintz, both teams advanced to the NCAA Championship in 2026. The women's team finished in the top eight in stroke play to advance to the quarterfinals of match play for the sixth time in Duke history. The men's team advanced to the final round of stroke play before finishing 13th in Heintz's first season as head coach.
The creation of the Birdies for Babies program was spearheaded by Carta. A native of Udine, Italy, Carta was a four-time All-ACC selection and the 2016 NCAA individual champion. The 2016 WGCA All-America and Honda Award winner posted an NCAA-record 16-under-par score of 272 as a rookie to register her first collegiate victory. She became one of only four Blue Devils to win both an NCAA individual title and an NCAA team title.
