Duke Opens 2026 Season Against Coastal Carolina and Queens

DURHAM, N.C. – Duke volleyball opens its 2026 season and the Ahen Kim era this weekend on the road with a pair of matches against Coastal Carolina on Friday Aug. 28 at 6 p.m., and Queens (N.C.) on Saturday, Aug. 29 at 3 p.m. Both matches will be played at the HTC Center in Conway, South Carolina.

The Kim Era
Kim begins his tenure as the sixth head coach of the Duke volleyball program on Friday. He comes to Durham after spending the previous three seasons as the head coach of American University in the Patriot League, where he posted an impressive 64-25 record. The Eagles won 20 or more games in all three seasons. In 2025, Kim led American to a 24-5 record, the Patriot League Tournament Championship and a trip to the NCAA Tournament.
Prior to leading American, Kim served as the Brown head coach from 2018-22, posting a combined record of 59-39. He led the Bears to the 2021 Ivy League Championship and the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance in 20 years, before returning to the Ivy League Championship match in 2022.
Returning Production
Duke returns its top scoring weapon from last season, Taylor Williams, who led the Blue Devils with 331 kills and 388.0 points. Also returning for the Blue Devils is sophomore outside hitter Ashby Zubchevich, who was second on the team with 330 kills and 378.0 points.
Of Duke's nine top point scorers last season, eight of them return for the 2026 campaign with Ngozi Iloh being the lone exception. Iloh graduated in spring of 2026 with a degree in psychology.
The Blue Devils also see the return of Charlotte Glass, who led Duke with 615 assists – 6.47 per set – while also registering 46 kills. Also seeing noticeable time at the setter position was Nikki Quinn, who appeared in 14 matches and 36 sets while recording 169 assists.
Mailinh Godschall, who started all 31 matches at libero and played in all 112 sets, returns for 2026. Godschall led the Blue Devils with 451 digs, which ranked sixth in the ACC and was 100th in the country. Her 4.03 digs per set ranked second in the conference and 105th nationally. She had seven matches with 20-plus digs and recorded double-digit digs in 22 matches.
Newcomers
The 2026 Blue Devils welcome five new players to the squad, with three freshmen and a pair of graduate transfers. Carlyle Johnson, Riley Copenhaver and Sara Lozano – all attackers – make up the freshman class for this season.
Nataly Moravec (Purdue) and Kyndal Ganoe (FDU) each join the Blue Devils as graduate students. Moravec comes to Bull City with a plethora of Big Ten experience having started her collegiate playing career at Iowa. With the Hawkeyes, Moravec – a 6-3 outside hitter – played in all but one set in 2023. She was second on the team in kills with 286. After not competing in 2024, Moravec appeared in 16 matches and 24 sets for the Boilermakers and recorded 33 kills.
Ganoe, a 5-7 libero/defensive specialist, spent the last three seasons playing with the FDU Knights. She was named NEC Defensive Player of the Week three times last year en route to a spot on the 2025 All-NEC Second Team. Ganoe totaled 373 digs in 2025, which ranked fourth in the NEC.
Series History
Duke owns a perfect 5-0 record against the Chanticleers, including 4-0 at home and 1-0 in a neutral site. The Blue Devils swept the Chanticleers in their last meeting on Sept. 15, 2023, inside Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Saturday will mark the first meeting between Duke and Queens.
